Competition Guidelines Miss Contestants
Categories of Competition and Scoring Percentages:
- Private Interview - 25%
- Talent - 35%
- Evening Gown - 20%
- Lifestyle & Fitness in Swimsuit - 15%
- On-Stage Question - 5%
- Top Five Ballot (not added to prior scores)
Miss Competition
- Miss America has officially partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network to develop a National Platform.
The National Platform starts at the Miss Local Pageant Level with the 2008 pageant year.
- Each contestant is expected to meet a required minimum goal, for the National Platform, of $100 for each local pageant level competed in.
The expected minimum goal must be met before you may compete in the local preliminary. For more details on the National Platform visit the

- There is no entry fee paid to the local pageant. However, you must send a $100.00 deposit to hold your placement in the pageant and you will receive it
back on the day of the pageant.
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Must be female, single, never married, have never conceived a child, and be of good character.
- Must be a resident of the State of Texas for the past six (6) months or a student of an accredited Texas college or
University for at least one (1) full semester enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours or the maximum required
for the degree plan chosen.
- Must (a) be at least seventeen (17) years of age at the time of your first appearance in the preliminary round
of the local or state competition and (b) be no older than twenty-four (24) years
of age on December 31stth of the year in which you would win State Finals.
- Must be a High School Senior by the time of your first appearance in preliminary round of the local or state competition and can
or will be able to produce a diploma as proof thereof upon request or that you have or will have successfully completed
the G.E.D. testing program for high school equivalency and can or will produce proof thereof upon request or have or will
have successfully completed the academic requirements for entry into a four year college/degree program.
- Miss Contestants compete in the following categories: Private Interview; Swimsuit; Talent; Evening Wear; and On-stage Question.
- Private interview will be 9 ½ minutes long followed by an optional 30 second closing. There is no opening statement.
- Talent performances are limited to 1 ½ minutes (90 seconds).
- If you competed at a local Miss USA pageant and either won a local USA title or went on to the state USA competition as an
"at large" titleholder you are eligible to compete in the Miss America system provided you no longer have any obliations to the title in the USA System.
- If you held a Miss America local title during the current pageant season and either resigned your title or lost your title
for some reason, you may not be eligible to compete in a Miss America local pageant again for one (1) complete pageant year.

Competition Guidelines Teen Contestants
Categories of Competition and Scoring Percentages:
- Private Interview - 30%
- Talent - 35%
- Evening Gown - 15%
- Lifestyle & Fitness in Sportswear - 10%
- On-Stage Question - 5%
- Scholastic Achievement - 5%
Outstanding Teen Competition
- There is a $100.00 entry fee, payable in advance, sent in with your application.
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Must be female, single, never married, have never conceived a child, and be of good character.
- Must be a resident of the State of Texas at least six (6) months prior to your first local competition.
- Must be between the ages of thirteen (13) and seventeen (17) in order to compete in your first preliminary local.
- Must be no more than a Junior classification in high school unless you are a sixteen (16) year old or younger Senior and
won't turn seventeen (17) until after the last Miss Texas preliminary is held. In this instance, you are not eligible for
the Miss division and can continue as a Teen for one more year.
- Teen Contestants compete in the following categories: Private Interview; Aerobic Wear; Talent; Evening Gown; and On-stage Question.
- Private Interview will be 8 minutes long. There will not be opening or closing statements.
- Talent performances are limited to no more than 2 minutes.
