Platform: Immunize KIDS: Kill Infectious Diseases and Sickness
What parent isn’t constantly concerned about the health and safety of their child? Their love naturally moves them to implement measures of prevention. Parent's put child-proof door latches on cabinets so their little one won’t get in to the poison, to making sure their child is in a safety seat to avoid injury in case of an car accident. However, you might be surprised to find that when it comes to bacteria, germs and disease children have died due to the lack of one preventative word, immunization.
More than four million people, mainly children, die needlessly every year from preventable diseases. As much as a parent protects their child from physical harm, immunization works to safeguard a child from illnesses and potential death caused by an infectious disease. Fortunately nearly all children in the United States are immunized properly by the time they start school. Still the very young children are less likely to get immunized due to a number of reasons. It could range from the lack of knowledge regarding the benefits of vaccines, or limited health care or due to the increasing cost of vaccinations and the lack of insurance and funds to pay for immunization for example.
Our children don’t have to get smallpox shots any more because the disease no longer exists. You might ask what would happen if we stopped immunization? Diseases, like smallpox, or those that are almost unknown would stage a comeback. So educating families on the benefits of immunization is critical. When we immunize our children we are not only protecting our own kids, in reality we are protecting generations of children to come. As we educate families on the importance of vaccination and where to get help, through free clinics and medical fairs, we are certainly ensuring a healthier and safer tomorrow for us all.
